In the middle of summer, perennial gardens may seem overgrown, annual flowers begin to wither, and beetles can eat your vegetables. Experienced gardeners are here to help you! We would like to share some of our best summer garden tips to spice up your flower beds and maintain a high yield of vegetables throughout the summer.

Tips for the summer garden

Prune flowering perennials to remove dead flower thorns and pods. This will help the perennial garden look its best and the flowers currently in bloom will really stand out.

Annual flowers with dried heads will give strength to plants and stimulate greater flowering. It is enough to pinch off all the faded flowers and pods from the plants, and soon they will be covered with flowers again.

Pumpkin borers are a household pest in the garden, and it is at this time of year that they begin to raise their hideous heads. Check the base of your pumpkin vines for signs of borers. If you see dirty sawdust or holes on the vine, you can save the plants by digging Pumpkin Seeders and sprinkling the vines with soil. Here is a simple tip to help you next season.

Don’t be afraid to cut the plants: some of my annual plants, such as petunias and calibrachos – both in the garden and in my containers – seemed a little neglected because of the heat. I’ve given them a few reasonable snippets here and there and they look a lot better.

Action weeds? Add a thick layer of mulch to deter weeds.

Cut the greens. Prune all the greens regularly so that they germinate for as long as possible!

Now that the weather has warmed up, it’s time to remove cool-season plants like Erben, broccoli, radishes and lettuce. Apply two inches of compost or aged manure to the site and transplant the end-of-season plants. Two seedlings of beets, carrots, turnips, Kale and other crops will be ready for harvesting in the fall.

You have collected a few handfuls of young potatoes from under beds of still green potatoes, pushing the mulch to the side and gently lifting it with pitchforks. Leave the plant intact, as it will continue to produce more tubers until it dies again at the end of summer. Young potatoes have a thin skin and should be used in cooking a few days after harvesting.

To increase the strength of flowering in the summer, feed annuals and potted plants with foliar fertilizers. Algae fertilizers or fish emulsions provide nutrients to your plants, as well as their foliage and roots. Continue feeding every two weeks until the end of summer so that the flowers appear.
